Guidelines for presentations

Oral presentations

  • Presentation format: Microsoft PowerPoint or Adobe PDF.
  • Duration: 15 minutes (10 min presentation + 5 min discussion). Because of organizational reasons and to be fair to all participants, please time yourself and have an appropriate number of slides to finish within 10 minutes so that you leave 5 minutes for active discussions. You will be interrupted if the presentation time exceeds 15 mins.
  • Language: English.
  • Name your talk according to the following format: session_lastname.ppt (Example: Symbiosis_Baker.ppt or Environment_Appleton.ppt ).
  • Please send your presentation to micom@uni-jena.de by the 10th of March 2017.
  • Bring your presentation on either a CD, DVD, memory stick or USB disk.
  • The conference will be equipped with computers running Windows with Microsoft Office.
  • If you are adding videos to your presentation in PowerPoint, please make sure to check your presentation at least 1 hour in advance before your session or in one of the session breaks. Please also use a common movie format such as AVI or WMV.
  • Use common fonts such as Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman, Verdana, etc. (Special fonts might be changed to default).
  • Preferably insert JPEG pictures in your presentations and not TIFF.
  • In case you want to use your own computer please make sure it has a VGA socket (in case of Macintosh, a VGA adaptor). You will have to contact the technical crew at least 1 hour before the start of the session to arrange this.
  • No changes in the presentation will be permitted before the start of the session.

Poster presentations

  • Poster dimension: A0. Posters cannot exceed the dimensions: 0.9 meters width (36 inches) x 1.2 meters height (48 inches).
  • The poster boards at the conference cannot hold posters exceeding the above-mentioned dimensions.
  • Only make the posters in portrait style.
  • Mention the title and authors as stated in your submitted abstracts on top of the posters.
  • You have to put up your own poster and be present at your poster during the scheduled poster session.
  • During the on-site registration you will be provided with the identity/number of the poster board allocated to you. Please only use the poster board that is allocated to you.
  • Equipment to mount the posters will be provided and the members of the organizing team will be there to assist you.
  • Text, illustrations and graphs should be sized appropriately to be read from a distance of at least 1.5 meters.
  • Please be sure to un-mount your poster before leaving at the end of the conference. The organizing team has no responsibility for posters that are not removed at the end of the poster session.
