Guidelines

There will be three kinds of PhD student presentations at the MiCom 2024. The organizing committee invites you to submit abstracts of your contributions!​

  • PhD Talks
    • Duration: 10 min. presentation + 5 min. discussion with the audience
      Please time yourself and have an appropriate number of slides to finish within time. You will be interrupted if the presentation time exceeds 13 min.
    • Language: English
    • Format: Microsoft PowerPoint or Adobe PDF
      • Use common fonts (e.g. Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman, Verdana). Special fonts might be changed to default.
      • If you add videos to your presentation, please use a common movie format (e.g. AVI or WMV) and send the video to us together with your presentation file.
      • Preferably insert JPEG pictures in your presentations and not TIFF.
      • Add slide numbers (which will facilitate the Q&A discussion)
      • You may add the MiCom2024 logo to your presentation if you wish.
      • Name your file according to the following format:
        student_session_lastname_firstname.fileextension
        Example:
        • student_natural_products_Baker_Tom.pptx
        • student_environment_Appleton_Anne.pdf
    • Send your presentation file to micom@uni-jena.de if your abstract was accepted. No changes will be possible once you sent your presentation file to us.
    • A test run will be offered in order to ensure that the technical set-up works out during the conference. This test run is mandatory for all presenters.
  • Flash Talks
    • Duration: 3 min. presentation
      • Please time yourself and have an appropriate number of slides to finish within time. You will be interrupted if the presentation time exceeds 5 min.
      • Recommendation: max 3 slides
        • 2 slides for presentation (including front slide)
        • 1 slide for acknowledgements
    • Language: English
    • Format: Microsoft PowerPoint or Adobe PDF
      • Use common fonts (e.g. Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman, Verdana). Special fonts might be changed to default.
      • If you add videos to your presentation, please use a common movie format (e.g. AVI or WMV) and send the video to us together with your presentation file.

  • Poster presentation
    •  Mounting: Please bring your poster yourself, we will provide mounting equipment.
      •  The posters should be put up until 9:30 am and put down at the end of each day.
    •  Timing: All poster presenters will have the opportunity to discuss their work during the coffee breaks. 
      •  The specific time will be announced with your poster number at a later time point
    • Specifications: The measurement of your poster should be approximately A0 Portrait, (maximum 84.1 cm wide x 118.9 high – 33.1 in. wide and 46.8 in. high). 
      •  All posters should include the title, name of authors, institution, city, and country.
      •  The poster should be easily readable from a distance of 2 meters.
